FAQs

Booking

How far in advance should I book?

As early as you can. We hold only one of most pieces, in a single size, so once a dress is booked for your date, it's gone. For Spring Carnival, formal season and December, four to six weeks out is a good idea. Outside those times, a week or two is usually fine.

How long is the hire?

Every hire is 4 days. Need it a little longer? Get in touch and we'll do our best to make it work. If no one is booked straight after you, extensions are $20 per day.

When does my hire start?

Your hire starts the day the dress is in your hands, whether it arrives in the post or you collect it from us.

Can I book more than one dress?

Of course, and for a big event it's not a bad idea. Each piece is hired at its own price.

Can I cancel?

Yes. Cancel more than 14 days before your hire date for a full refund. Between 7 and 14 days out, you'll receive store credit, valid for 12 months. Within 7 days of your hire date, we're unable to offer a refund. Once a piece is booked it's held just for you, and it's rare for a dress to be rebooked at such short notice. Date changes are free up to 7 days before your original hire date, as long as the dress is available on your new date.

Why do you need my phone number?

We ask for an email address and mobile number on every booking. It's how we send you tracking and reach you quickly if anything changes.

Will you ask for ID?

Sometimes. If the name or address on an order doesn't match the payment details, we may ask for a photo of your driver's licence or passport before we hand over or post a dress. We only use it to check those details, and we delete it as soon as your dress is back with us. We still never take a bond.

Fit and sizing

Can I have it altered or hemmed?

Sorry, no. No pinning, hemming, taking in or letting out. Every dress needs to come back to us exactly as it went out. If length is your worry, let us know before you book and we'll help you find something that works.

What sizes do you stock?

Right now we stock AU 6 to 12, with most of the wardrobe in 8 and 10. We're growing the range, so if your size isn't here yet, please tell us. It really does shape what we buy next.

Pick ups and returns

Can I visit the store?

We're an online store, so there's no shopfront. Pick ups and returns happen at our space inside the CLIK Collective shared warehouse in West Footscray, between 9am and 5pm. You can only pick up on your hire start date, and you return on your last day, or the next business day if your last day falls on a weekend or public holiday. Try-ons are by appointment only.

Where do I pick up from?

From us at 40 Robbs Road, West Footscray, and collection is free. You can only collect your dress on your hire start date, between 9am and 5pm. It isn't available to collect on any other day, and pick up hire start dates are Monday to Friday only.

Do you post Australia-wide?

Yes we do! Postage anywhere in Australia is $30. That covers Express Post to you plus a prepaid return satchel, so there's nothing more to pay on the way back. See Pickup, Shipping and Returns for delivery times.

Do I need to clean it before I send it back?

No, please don't. Dry cleaning is included and it's our job. Home cleaning usually sets a stain rather than lifting it, and that can turn into a damage charge.

When exactly does my hire end if I post it back?

The moment you lodge it at the post office. Everything is prepaid and tracked both ways, so we can see exactly when your dress was sent back.

What if I'm running late returning it?

Message us before the due date. Late fees are $20 per day, as a late return holds up the next booking, but we're always far more flexible with people who let us know.

Damage and the awkward stuff

Do you take a bond?

Never! We don't hold a bond or a security deposit. That's unusual for hire, and it's on purpose. If damage beyond normal wear happens, we'll send you photos and an itemised cost first, but you're never out of pocket up front.

What if I spill something on it?

Don't panic, and don't try to clean it. Blot it dry, leave it, and tell us when you return it. Most things come out in professional cleaning and you won't be charged. Red wine, fake tan and oil are the tricky ones, but telling us early always ends better.

What will I actually be charged for?

Only damage beyond normal wear: rips, burns, broken zips, pulled beading, and stains that professional cleaning can't remove. We'll send you photos and an itemised cost before charging anything. Every dress has a recorded replacement value, and we're happy to tell you what it is before you book. The full detail is in our Hire Terms and Conditions.

About the wardrobe

Are the dresses new?

No, they've been hired before. Every dress is professionally cleaned between hires, and we retire pieces once they're past their best. Any adjustments, like hemming, are noted on the listing.

Can I buy a dress instead of hiring it?

Sometimes. Pieces retiring from the wardrobe are occasionally offered for sale, freshly cleaned. Ask us about a specific piece.

Can I see a dress before I book?

Yes, and we'd love you to if you're local. Book a try-on at our West Footscray warehouse for $25, and $15 of that comes off your hire. Please come with no makeup or fake tan so the pieces stay lovely.
